Our four new students started off preparing to head to their new school, The Strixhaven Academy.
Iilay talked with her family about the coming school year, and her parents voiced their disapproval of her “staying in one place” as opposed to adventuring. Her mom was particularly distrustful of the skills she’d get from this school, but her dad tried to be more supportive. They both seemed to value their younger child, Riddick highly though.
Torqua Ca assured his moms that he’d do well at the school, despite their worry of his more physical pursuits. But they said they’d be proud of him attending a magic academy, and told him to wake up his brother Covdri. Torqua did so after they left, and heard something strange from Covdri’s room beforehand. The more intellectual brother said he’d be fine to get to the portal on his own, and took a bus, while Torqua went ahead and flew.
Polari had been visited by a stranger, who saw potential in the young faun. While Pol’s world didn’t have grand cities or renowned magic users, the boy did show aptitude for the star charts. The stranger offered to help Pol by sending him to a place that would teach him more about his power, provided he could find a way to travel across the multiverse to the Strixhaven academy. Pol found a shaman who could do just that, but demanded a favor at some point in the future.
Driri sat at dinner and listened to another rambling mess of a rant from her father. He couldn’t help but claim that everything the family has, they got from hard work. Even when Driri pointed out that the family relied on power gifted from a higher power, her father just talked over her. Her mother impressed that Driri and her older sister Iribelle must prove themselves worthy of the power they possess at Strixhaven. Iribelle tried to console Driri, but also pointed out that she’d be busy in her fourth year at the academy, and may not be around to help.
The first day of the school year saw the four meet at the library, the grand Biblioplex, for orientation. Torqua crashed into the floor making a spectacle of himself, as Pol showed confusion of the whole situation. Iilay dragged Driri with the boys into the Biblioplex to see about orientation.
The group were drawn to the magic snarl at the center of the building. There a voice told them that they needed to complete a scavenger hunt, and provided clues. They moved from location to location, obtaining magic items throughout their journey. They also met some students.
Cadoras is a jovial Elf who is a member of the LARP Guild. Quentillius is a little full of himself, but encouraged people to join the drama club.
After the scavenger hunt, screams filled the library as a wooden trunk came to life and attacked students. While the teachers struggled with getting the students away and protected, the group worked together to take out the rampaging chest. After defeating the monster, it broke into the wooden pieces it once was. Rosimyffenbip (Rosie for short) was the gnome girl who was trying to drag her relatively giant trunk of books around when it sprang to life. She was grateful for the rescue.
An investigation of the leather binding from the chest found some black, oily substance that a teacher wrote off as leather polish.
The group signed up for classes, taking Magical Physiologies together. Torqua and Pol roomed together, after Covdri ensured he didn’t have to room with his brother. Driri ignored her sister’s attempt to check in on her.
Classes got under way, and the group spent a few weeks learning about their magic. One day, when they went to the Firejolt Café to study, they encountered Cadoras. The elf told them about some frogs they snuck into the café and planned to race in the lounge. However, after the race and the frogs ate their reward, they grew into giant toads and attacked.
While most students fled, the group and Cadoras stuck around to stop the attack. Iilay grew attached to one of the frogs and named him Boggy. Though difficult, they got through the fight and the frogs shrank back to their original size and demeanor. Upon inspecting the carpet, they found the same black, oily substance.
The group takes their first Magic Physiologies exam, with Torqua and Iilay just barely passing and Driri and Pol acing their tests.
