Witchlight Lost 5/11/2024

The Witchlight Lost gathered and headed to the Witchlight Carnival. Thissalus and Arawa seemed to have some knowledge of each other which led to animosity. Bother and Bow, as well as Bow and Thala also had met previously, but were on much more amicable terms.

On their way to the Carnival entrance, the party saw a few kids sneak into the park by going over the river where a tree limb stretched out. Despite a verbal lashing from one of the witchlight hands, once they ran off, the worker didn’t seem to put effort into chasing them.

At the ticket booth, another group of children were trying to buy some tickets to get in, but found themselves 9 silver short. Rather than offer to provide the kids with the rest of the funds, or leave them alone, Thissalus told the kids how to sneak in, with minimal mention of the possibility they might lose something as everyone in the group had experienced 24 years ago.

Up at the counter, a goblin told the party the price per ticket for adults is 8 silver. If they didn’t want to pay, they could make a small pact and allow the goblin to borrow something of theirs temporarily. The moment they left the park, it would be returned. Not wanting any pact making shenanigans, Thissalus vetoed this option, while looking pointedly at Arawa.

In trying to get a discount for the party, Arawa sweet talked the goblin, who instantly recognized her as a follower of a powerful deity. He would allow her in for free, effectively giving the party a 20% discount if they pooled their money together. Instead, Arawa is selfish and just got in for free, and everyone else was forced to pay full price. In some instances, pay for each other.

Once inside, Thissalus immediately was hungry and hopped over to the Feasting Orchard, dragging the party along with him. There, him and Bow would find and eat leftover food they found on the table, while Bother sneakily took what good looking food she could from the tables with no one noticing. Thala took the more sensible approach and just purchased a cinnamon sugar coated fry bread, though she was quickly guilted into sharing with Bow.

Arawa got a nice frozen custard, as befitting a royal lady like herself.

After they started looking at different places, seeing if they could find some information from the workers. At the carousel, they ran into a woman named Diana. Despite her horse-like legs, she insisted she wasn’t a centaur, but rather “a human who made a bad deal.” Despite the rocky start from Thala, Bother was able to convince Diana to help. Diana couldn’t explain anything about her deal without coughing up tree sap, but she did offer the advice to trust the unicorns, provided Bother with a pot of gold paint and brush, and closed down the ride for “servicing.”

On the shutdown carousel, they found the horses names on the bridle, written in gold ink. While the ones with three letter names were all there, the eight letter names were worn away, with letters missing. Realizing the pair of horses were similarly named, they quickly solved the puzzle and were offered to ride the (free) carousel.

Once on the ride, each of the unicorns offered a member of the party an answer to a question they didn’t know they wanted to ask, providing the name of the one who stole their lost thing, where they were located, or a hint to their weakness. The group split up the questions to ask, and found they got different answers even when asking the same question.

After the carousel, the headed over to the Lost Property booth, hoping against hope that their lost things might be there. The displacer beast Dirlagraun, who kept track of the booth and could magically talk, informed them that they only had items there, not concepts like memories or childhood days. However, while talking with the party, a boy that Dirlagraun was watching picked up a mirrored ball. The displacer beast snapped at the boy, who got scared and ran off. Thala ran off to find him, while Bother spoke with Dirla about their lost things. Dirla confirmed that many have lost things in the carnival that they can’t seem to get back, her own cub Star gone missing a year ago.

Once the boy was brought back by Thala, Dirla gave the mirrored ball to her, and told Bother that the owners of the park seemed on edge, and spying on them in the Staff Area behind the Big Top might be the best way to find out why.

Back at the Feasting Orchard, Thissalus and Bow wanted to enter the eating contest. However, their attempts to win didn’t go as planned, as Thissalus’s stomach was not used to the rich, fairie cakes, and Bow attempted to quietly cheat by using magic to blow dirt on everyone else’s cakes and was immediately caught.

After the event, Bow and Bother want to steal some of the cakes, and the rest of the party wants to investigate the Dragonfly Rides.
